The RJ Spangler Quintet featuring James O'Donnell

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Commerce Township Community Library
White Pine Room
Join us for an evening of live jazz music from veteran musicians on the Detroit jazz scene. The RJ Spangler Quintet featuring James O’Donnell will perform jazz standards, swing tunes, and New Orleans traditional jazz. The RJ Spangler Quintet at the Commerce Township Community Library is presented by the Jazz Foundation of America.

Space is limited; registration is required.

Lifelong friends, RJ (percussion) and James (trumpet and vocals), go back over 40 years to Detroit's fertile east side music scene of the late 1970's where they helped start a band that later emerged as the Sun Messengers. With that band, they toured throughout the mid-west, Ontario and several forays to NYC and Boston. James moved to NY and RJ stayed in Detroit but was very active as a touring musician. Both traveled throughout Europe, RJ hit all 48 of the continental states and 8 Canadian Provinces and James lived and worked in Mexico. Also playing with the quintet is Bob Sweet on drums, Emen Obasi on bass, and Oliver Nevels on guitar.
